Mrs. Barb Clouser
I am a firm believer in life-long learning and modeling that for both students and my colleagues.
Throughout my career I have pursued opportunities to grow professionally and personally. Early
on, I concluded that in order to retain quality teachers it is my responsibility to give back to our
profession through support and encouragement. I have worked as a mentor teacher, a department
coordinator, an instructional coach, and a local education association president to promote best
instructional practices and to create personalized professional learning opportunities for
educators.
I have been with the Derry Township School District since 1993. I spent five years at Hershey
Middle School as a Spanish teacher before moving to Hershey High School where I assumed the
role of the world language department coordinator and also advised various student groups. I
taught all levels of Spanish and was a pilot teacher of blended format courses. I also created a
fully-online community service course that is focused on student voice and choice. In 2019, I
transitioned to my current position as an instructional coach. Additionally, I work with the World
of Learning (WOL) Institute at Appalachia IU 8 as a virtual Spanish teacher. During the
COVID-19 school closures, I also worked with Appalachia IU 8 to provide personalized
professional development for teachers as they transitioned to remote teaching.
So many people have influenced me throughout my professional learning journey. My family
has always stressed the importance of education and giving back. During my time at Derry
Township, several administrators provided me with opportunities to try new strategies and step
outside of my comfort zone. Most recently, my supervisor at IU 8, Dr. Patricia Mulroy, has been
instrumental in helping me to develop my online teaching skills and has encouraged me to
consider multiple learning perspectives. Her passion for education is evident and she models
what she wants to see in educators. I am forever grateful for the opportunities that she has
provided me.
